Appearance: Stocky and lean, Kgosi is a mixture of intimidating size and subtle strength. His frame, slightly larger than your average male but just as malnourished, has hints of scrawniness to it, and there are a few muscles obvious around his shoulders, which are broad, even for an underfed lion.
It is not fair to call him anorexic; he is much more than simply bone. A stringy-looking coat covers sinewy muscles and inner organs, dusty brown in colour with a few faded spots serving as symbols of his childhood. Kgosi blends in well; his fur is the colour of all things dead – a Sahara brown that seems more like gold in the light.
The lion’s mane has yet to develop into what it is capable of being, but at the moment, it looks rather nice on him. As scrawny as the rest of him, the male’s head of hair is thick and tough to the texture, and is slightly darker than the rest of him. From in-between his shoulder blades to just above his forehead, his mane appears to be like a Mohican, curving upwards into the air and flicking subtly at the front, but apart from that odd streak, he looks relatively normal.
Kgosi is average, to be honest. His paws are rather huge, although he has yet to put them to good use (hunting was never his forte, but he gets by – nomadic males are notorious for surviving, even in the harshest of lands) and his eyes are a deep brown, almost black in colour. There is a slight swagger to the way he walks, but this has nothing to do with his personality, I can assure you, and his body appears streamlined to the untrained eye.
He’s not streamlined, nor is he built for speed. As underfed as he looks, there is an underestimated strength to Kgosi that has yet to be seen, mainly because he’s not stupid enough to lose his hide at this moment in time. Various battle scars line his coat, a few deep ones around his haunches and under his mane, but whether they are scars of victory or failure is uncertain.
Personality: Kgosi is not one to brag about past events, or how amazing he is. He’s not arrogant, boisterous, belligerent, annoyingly over-confident, but he could be deemed irritating. He’s like a pest that won’t go away; he’s a bit of a follower, to be honest, although he’s a rather dangerous follower if you rub him up the wrong way.
He’s an intelligent individual, fond of observing and watching everyone around him. Not particularly talkative, Kgosi is more introverted than anything else, and prefers to watch socialisation rather than take part in it. He’s a sceptic, choosing to think about things and plan them out before doing them, and he’s terribly indecisive, too.
He’s not all that interested in pride life, although he has to admit that life as a nomad does get a bit lonely. Skittish around new faces to the plains, Kgosi does get nervous when he can’t answer questions, or when confronted with a bigger and more dangerous threat. He doesn’t like confrontations, but will not hesitate to start one when he’s in the right mood, and is usually a calm and mild-mannered lion.
A calculating lion, he likes things to be absolutely perfect – meticulous, you might say. If things don’t go according to plan, Kgosi becomes irritable and goes into a sulk that could possibly last for days. He’s wrapped up in his own little world most of the time, to be honest, and has no qualms when he crosses into territory that is not his own or free to wander on, uncaring of the consequences.
Make no mistake, the four year old can hold his own against a lot of obstacles in life. Hyenas, other rogues – you name it, he’s probably dealt with it. This doesn’t make him any wiser, however, and he has a certain nonchalance about him when it comes to boundaries and what doesn’t belong to him. Still, Kgosi is relatively easy-going and friendly if he knows you, and even if he doesn’t, he still retains some form of manners.
