You hate reading them, we hate writing them. But its necessary if you want to minimize your risk of punishment. And besides, you only have to read them once, anyway. If you can sit through six pages of a pride hunt, surely you can pay due attention to the few things we ask of our members in order to keep the game balanced and fair.
Introduction
Everything at Mirage is achieved through roleplay. We try to enforce activity by making sure OOC information isn't carried over into the IC. Characters can only learn and progress by interacting with others. Claims, battles, hunts, acceptance, territory disputes -- all are done through roleplay. This is to encourage an active and exciting community, with plenty of engaging opportunities as well as the occasional board-wide function. Clans are left well enough alone to decide their own fates. Keeping this in mind, please review our rules. Key points are highlighted in red. If you have any questions or suggestions, contact a staff member.
Out of Character Rules
- If you post a link to a video or article, please include some kind of opinion, discussion, or description of it, or it will be considered as spam and may face deletion.
- This is your only warning: signature images may not exceed 500 pixels in width x 150 pixels in height. If found, the image will be removed and a PM sent to the violator directing them to these rules which should have already been read. If the person is found repeating the offense, they face expulsion from the boards. I have a personal vendetta against stretched pages, even by the slightest fraction.
- No mixing OOC with IC, or vice versa.
- Arguments are to be conducted through PM. Staff will not take sides in a personal dispute; both parties will likely receive punishment for disturbing the peace.
- No excessively mature or gory themes, in or out of character. We may have minors in our midst, and we wish to be respectful to them.
In Character - General
- Be literate. We believe in quality over quantity. However, we also like to see at least two paragraphs of content. As a guideline, a good paragraph consists of five lines (not sentences) or more.
- Joining, acceptance, and rank adjustments are to be made through roleplay.
- If you OOCly form a plot, all the details and execution of that plot must still be roleplayed. Your characters must pass on the information accordingly, so plan to have a thread for doing such.
- Characters should have natural colors, but they do not have to occur in natural patterns. For example, you could have a black lion with a white mane, just so long as the colors themselves are typically found among mammals.
- No jewelry, extreme mutations, extra limbs, wings, or anything of that sort.
- Hybrids are allowed within reason; no crossing canine and feline genes. (ie: there can be a lion-tiger hybrid, but not a lion-wolf)
- You are not limited to a certain amount of characters. However, you are responsible for actively playing them all. Don't let people down by getting in over your head with too many characters or plots.
- Please be considerate of others and make an effort not to make too many out of character posts in a roleplay thread unless it is included in an area above or below your actual roleplaying post and does not exceed the length of said post.
- Unless specified otherwise, our general battle system is based upon the Three-Dodge System. See the tutorial for more details.
Joining
- You do not have to wait for acceptance to begin roleplaying. However, a profile will be required sometime if you wish to participate in the board-wide and OOC functions of the game. Should it need any changes, you will be notified.
- Prides and packs may choose to allow different species into their midst. This is entirely up to the leaders. Information will be specified in the territory stickies, but remember that your character cannot know this ICly unless it has acquired the information through roleplay as well.
- To join a clan, simply post within their territory, with some notion of wanting to join, and someone will surely greet you. However, it is not guaranteed that you will be accepted, or even allowed to live, depending on the leaders. You may also post on the Rogue Island, though you are not guaranteed to be recruited to the clan you desire.
- If you are absent, without any prior notice, for more than two weeks, then you negate all rights to your character and, ICly, it will either be banished from its clan or killed to further plot details. Should you return later, you will be required to start anew. There can be no exceptions to this, as to do so would be unfair. Harsh as it may sound, there would likely be few sacrifices otherwise. So let this remind you to inform us of your departure beforehand.
Claiming/Overtaking a Territory
- Lands are not totally free for all. There are both canine- and feline-specific territories. A feline cannot overtake a canine land, but they may chase them out if they so desire, and vice versa. Prey populations are scarcer in canine lands because they are farther from the river. This encourages occasional scavenging from feline kills, promoting activity and plot potential between the species.
- To claim a territory, make an open post in the land of your choice, roleplaying your desire to start a clan and the physical notifications (scent marking, vocal boasting, tree scratching) of doing such. Others may reply there to join, or challenge your claim. Post in the Current Ruler thread with the appropriate form and Staff will update status.
- Leaders who claim a territory are responsible for establishing a rank system and any additional IC requirements or laws for their members to uphold. It will require communication with the staff, which, though maybe inconvenient, keeps everyone informed and well up to date on what is going on.
- If you are challenging for leadership, only the male leaders fight. The fight is conducted through the Three-Dodge System only. It does not have to be a fight to the death. Winner takes all; the land plus the members of the losing clan. Losing-clan members may flee, but it is not guaranteed they will get away.
- If a member wishes to challenge its leader, or other higher position, the loser is often killed or exiled. This is just a guideline, however.
Regulations on 'Post-Claiming'
- If you post OOCly to claim your spot, you have 24 hours to edit in a post.
- If you do not post within the 24 hour limit, you will be skipped and your claim ignored in order to avoid slowing down the thread.
- If you disregard someone's claimed spot before their time is up, delete your post IMMEDIATELY unless informed otherwise. It's just common courtesy.
- These rules are not here to hinder or frustrate you. They are established to keep the board, its threads, and its plots from becoming stalled or inactive. The same applies to everyone, so don't feel targeted if you can't keep up.
